ice cream sushi

Good food tastes good no matter what it looks like but presentation makes food more interesting and many people love the idea of wrapping food. Therefore we love this ice cream sushi roll from Top Sushi in Texas, posted up on Food Spotting recently. Made from green tea ice cream, wrapped in a sponge type cake, topped with strawberries and drizzled with hot fudge sauce, you couldn't help but feel a bit pampered eating this...#sogood.

heart organi cake form lilli vanilli

Valentine's Day conjures up images of hearts for all of us and Lilli Vanilli, a London-based bakery has taken this to the extreme with their bleeding heart dessert.  Not sure whether this velvet sponge cake brings on the sugar cravings but can't help to admire their imagination and skill in creating this ghoulish cake.

Cute Cupcake Wrappers

The cupcake trend and popularity over the last few years has not really waned. These super sweet, colourful treats just give instant gratification, despite their unapologetic calorie count. We came across these creative cupcake wrappers from Bella Cupcake Couture and thought they dressed up these gorgeous buns perfectly. There are loads of different design ideas including celebration messages for any occasion and they tick our box as a cute and clever business idea.

NYC Urban Garden

The global economic recession has brought construction to a halt across the world and NYC is no exception. However innovation often stems from difficult circumstances and this is proving very true in Manhattan where a stalled build project has been radically transformed into a thriving urban garden. The site for the Alexandria Center for Life Science's has seen completion of Phase 1 but delay on Phase 2 of development. The owners of the Riverpark and Wichcraft Restaurants located on the completed part of the development came up with the idea to establish an urban garden on the empty space. They now grow over 100 different crops on the 15,000 square foot lot in milk crates. Customers are thrilled to be eating the freshest of produce possible and no doubt it is a much nicer picture than looking at a derelict site. They are also setting up 'farm tables' on the lot for customers who prefer al fresco dining.

Twinings, the British tea company recently collaborated with a group of design students to design a new packaging concept which would appeal to a younger demographic. Their approach was to inject humour into the brand and create packaging which was fresh and innovative. Focusing on the British dry sense of humour they created characters whose tops of heads come off when the tea box is opened. They also presented funny quips on each tea bag, projecting a more carefree image for the brand.

Three Babes Bakeshop

The Three Babes Bakeshop based in San Francisco has recently opened thanks to the financial support and big thumbs up from the Kickstarter community. Their speciality is pies. Established by three foodies and pie lovers their aim was to offer local folk in the area authentic homemade pies, simple. What caught our attention and admiration is their 'pie subscription' service, the term itself is just great.  People in the area can subscribe to their exclusive pies (ones not sold over the counter), which can also be personally delivered by one of the 'babes' too.  Subscriptions are usually associated with movies and magazines, so it is just nice to see a more creative application of the term. They also offer pies that sounds that little bit different including salty honey walnut and blood orange custard...delish.
